Additional Information

Radio - A decent radio is the Futaba 2VR Attack (An AM two channel radio).  This is available through Centerline Hobbies in Hyannis  (CCMSC members get a 10% discount) or through TowerHobbies.com (TH Stock # LXH235 approx. $50.00).  You will need a receiver battery pack to go with the radio; again available at Centerline and TH (Futaba Dry 4 cell Receiver w/female connector - TH Stock# LXH354 @ $5.00).  You will also need a ratchet to hold the left stick (for sails) in the position that you leave it in instead of re-centering itself back to the neutral position like the rudder stick does. The ratchet is available at TH (Futaba Ratchet 2DR/VR/CR, TH Stock# LHX435 @$2.00 and Futaba Ratchet Screw 2DR/VR/CR, TH Stock# LXH436 @ $0.50).

Frequencies - Your radio transmitter and receiver will both be the same channel.  Request a channel that is not being used by others in the club if you might sail with us.  See the Frequencies page on this site for the channels already used by club members.  The frequencies for ground use (boats and cars as opposed to airplanes) are 27MHz (Channels A1 –A6) and 75MHz (Channels 61 through 90.)  If you buy a radio, please let the CCMSC know your channel so it can inform others and avoid frequency conflicts at the sailing site.

Sail Servo - The servos (little motors with an arm on top to control the rudder and/or sails) that come with the radio are really not powerful enough for the sails.  A suggestion is Futaba Sail Servo S3802 available at Centerline and TH (TH Stock# LXTL59  @ approx. $62.00).  If you buy your radio and sail servo at Centerline ask to trade the sail servo for one of the servos that comes with the radio and get credit for the price of the small servo.

Combo Package – As of this writing, TH has a radio/servo package that is perfect.  It has the radio referenced above with one standard servo for rudder and the S3802 sail winch servo.  It is Th Stock # LXH237 at $110.00.  Remember to specify a frequency (channel) when ordering a radio.

We hope you will print this for future reference.
